Make it stand out
The SBIR and STTR programs fund a diverse portfolio small businesses across technology markets to stimulate innovation, meet Federal research and development (R&D) needs, and transition R&D into commercial products.
Sometimes those proposals need a little visual “help” to get noticed.
AAID Autonomous aerial inspection drone
An inspection drone designed to fly into hazardous and/or small environments.
The camera is mounted to the outside of its protective cage, which is made up of spring steel wires and plastic hubs. The outer cage is the outer most “ring” of a gimble system allowing the drone’s camera a 360-degree view of its surroundings.
Lasers can damage eyes and are sometimes used inappropriately is situations involving crowds and authorities.
This portable system detects laser light and and pinpoints its location.
Laser detector/locator
Autonomous marine sensor drone
With climate change on the rise causing extreme weather conditions around the globe, it is important for science to understand surface and sub surface conditions in remote regions of the world’s oceans.
This drone can travel along a prescribed or random path gathering and transmitting data with “in air” sensors and a retractable water quality sonde.
It is constructed from large diameter PVC pipes with rotomolded end caps. A welded aluminum frame connects the pontoons and provides structure for the sealed compartments housing electronics and batteries.
Deep Sea Vision
Windturbines, offshore oil rigs, aqua-culture farms are just a few of the man made obstacles migrating marine mammals face during their journeys in the open sea.
DeepSea Vision uses machine vision, and ML audio analysis to recognize and docum, ent interaction with these gentle creatures. DSV is designed to be surface mounted to an offshore installation and must withstand the extremely harsh marine environment.
Battle Drone
Drones have become ubiquitious in today’s world. The technology has been applied across a wide spectrum of industries, from commerce to entertainment.
The Battle Drone concept is a defensive military drone that “hunts” other drones. A gimble mounted device (cannon) strategically fires a net to entangle the rotors of the target drone.
This exercise also explored a ecosystem required to transport and maintain that system.
SNUF
System for Neutralizing Undercarriage Fires
When the layers of a lithium-ion battery are physically compromised, a fierce, self-sustaining fire can result. Accidents involving electric vehicles can include thousands of these cells and are virtually impossible to extinguish with traditional fire-fighting technology.
SNUF uses a proprietary fire resistant material integrated into a portable containment structure. This system contains the vehicle fire, protecting surrounding property from damage until the fire is exhausted.
Deep Spectra
Different materials reflect spectral radiation in unique and different ways. Unfortunately our human eyes can only detect the radiation that falls withing the bounds of “visible light”. That’s where the hyperspectral camera and AI come into play…
If we know the spectral signature of a material we can trace use hyperspectral imagery to detect traces of that material on baggage. Thus speeding-up (or adding another layer of security to) a screening checkpoint.
